Code of Conduct

While it is the student’s right to receive an education and while John Mackenzie School will strive to provide the educational opportunities this community has come to expect, it is important that students acknowledge their responsibility to themselves, their fellow learners, their teachers and the school.

Students will therefore:

  1. Be punctual at all times.
  2. Establish realistic, clear and meaningful goals for each year’s programme of study.
  3. Establish a sound work ethic to ensure sustained academic progress.
  4. Assist in keeping the buildings and grounds neat and clean by not littering.
  5. Conduct themselves, while on the school premises or outside of school, in a manner that will be a credit to the image of the school.
  6. Be courteous and respectful in their conduct towards all staff, fellow students, prefects and visitors to the school.
  7. At all times adhere to the school rules.
  8. Involve themselves in all spheres of school life to ensure that the high standards at John Mackenzie are maintained.
  9. Ensure that all equipment, textbooks and stationery, provided by the school, are used with care.
  10. Ensure that no negative critical, slanderous or libellous comments are made concerning fellow pupils, staff or the school in general within the community or on the Internet, especially on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. All grievances should be taken directly to the teachers concerned, the Head of Department, Deputy Principal, Principal or, as a final resort, the Board of Governors.
